An explosion hit the Jbessa gas pipeline in southern Hasakah province in the late afternoon. Earlier, damage to a pipeline transporting oil products from Baniyas to Homs resulted in a fuel leak.
The gas pipeline incident was labeled a sabotage attack by the company, according to SANA reports. No suspects or responsible groups were named.
Oday al-Satouf, from the company’s media office, noted a hole in the Baniyas-Homs pipeline in the Hadida area, west of Homs. Crews isolated the area and started repairs while securing the zone.
Despite the damage, gas will continue to reach power stations through alternative routes, and domestic supplies remain unaffected, stated al-Satouf via SANA.
Over a week prior, another oil pipeline in the northeastern province of Hasakah was damaged in what officials called a sabotage attack, leading to arrests, the company indicated.
In late September, a fire interrupted operations on a gas pipeline between al-Shoula and Deir Az Zor, reducing gas flow from the Jbessa plant as efforts were made to control the fire.
Syria is working to recover its energy infrastructure and increase oil production, including reopening operations at oil fields in Hasakah to supply Homs and Baniyas refineries.
